About SHFT

Sporting Hounds Foundation of Tryon (SHFT) provides support for the care of sporting pack hounds unable to continue meeting the athletic rigors of hunting, and adjust from pack life to finding fulfilling lives as a family dog.

Currently, Sporting Hounds Foundation assists hunt clubs and other not for profit organizations through modest grants for:

Long term, SHFT envisions developing a dedicated site with ample kennels and land to care for and transition retired pack hounds.

The heat and humidity has been oppressive causing the need to reschedule to Sunday, September 26
to hold the RIG GIG.
The safety and enjoyment of our participants is our first priority.

  • Competitor Check-In 3:00 to 4:00 PM
  • Gates Open 4:00 PM

    Spectators enter the event via the Main Gate off Hunting Country Lane (see site map). Select your viewing space along the former steeple chase spectator area below the tower. Provide your own chairs or blankets.

  • Awards Party 6:00 to 9:00 PM

    Immediately following the competition in the covered pavilion.

West end of the former steeplechase track.


Navigate through traffic cones and various obstacles.


Park at the existing power and water hook-up area.

Gooseneck Trailers

Line Up: In order of arrival between the 6 barns adjacent to the covered arena.
After: return to the same area.

Bumper Pull Trailers

Line Up: In order of arrival between the barns. You will be directed to the former steeplechase track.
After: return to the same area.

Competition Rules

Must be 21 to Enter

Drivers must be 21 years or older to enter.

No Passengers or Livestock

In vehicle or trailer.

No Professional Drivers

If you make a living driving trucks and/or hauling livestock you may not compete.

Audible Start

There will be an audible “start” by the timer.

Signal Completion

Driver will signal the completion of their turn by cutting their engine and honking their horn.

Official Time

Your time will be added to the scoreboard by the judges. Tied scores will run-off immediately after the last entry in each class.


Five-second deductions will be made to final time for contact with any obstacle.

Checking Proximity

Drivers may get out of their vehicle at any time to view their proximity to obstacles or final parking space.

Friendly Competition

Judges will review and resolve any disputes.
